Ythin

Ythin is an unusual system, that serves as the nearest equivalent the Eldar have to a space dock. The planetoid holds a solarstationary orbit near a blue giant star. Lying just outside the confluence of the nearby warpstorm Charybdis, the area here is naturally warp-deadened, protecting it from access via the immaterium. Precisely how the Eldar manage to transport fleets and shipping to and from the area is a matter of great interest both to the Imperium and to the Archenemy forces of the Vectum Isolation.

Indeed, the interaction between the Charybdis warpstorm and Ythin has given rise to the whole of the Elopynnesine Region – the eldar territories within are safe from immediate assault. Numerous craftworld forces have been known to assemble here and use the services of Ythin; and the small population is made up of Eldar of all kinds, from the noble houses of the craftworlds, to agents of the cabals, and more besides. Some believe the planetoid to be a minor Craftworld, though if this is true, it is a most unusual and cosmopolitan one. They welcome travellers from other Craftworlds, who they encourage to teach new ideas – from worthy exarchs to wise seers.

The eldar of this area hold high political influence over the area, to the chagrin of the Paratyne Eldar of Paratas, whose highly conservative views regard Ythin as corrupt and arrogant. In turn, the Ythine regard the Paratyne as locked in the past; relying on old glories. This has led the two groups into political belligerence that has escalated into warfare in the past, not least during the events of the Elopynnesine War.

Militarily, Ythine eldar draw lineage from Yppia and Ypparchia of the House of Ulthanesh; and as such, they maintain a standing army of Guardians and Aspect Warriors that train in the shrines of the planetoid. Resplendent in their astral blue cloaks, the warriors are a fine sight; though their disciplined ground forces are far from their only strength. Historically unable to match the raw strength of the Paratyne Eldar who dominated the region from the Fall to the events of recent Imperial history, the great Autarchon Thymestocle enacted the High Muster sometime in the 35th Millennium. This drastically enlarged the Ythine fleet, and the starsailors of Ythin became the de facto protectors of the Elopynnesine Region; much to the chagrin of the Paratyne, who had seen the traditional kowtowing of the Eldar of the region wane following their humilation at the hands of Wortzog the Bloody in the Hand of Fate War.
